In 1971, when the 3 INPs were established, they were recognized as public sector scientific, cultural and professional institutes. Their role covers teaching, scientific and technological research, and international relations.
These three INPs, which will be 35 years old in 2006, provide France's largest engineering sciences training and research resource, with 19 engineering schools, training 10 % of France's engineering graduates and 20 % of engineering doctorate students.
and Grenoble INP (Grenoble Institute of Technology) are in close contact and organize inter-INP conferences on each site. There is a joint Preparatory course and regular collaborations as regards continuing professional development and international relationships.
